1. BTS

First formed in South Korea in 2013, BTS consists of seven young men. All members (Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) were in their early to mid-20s when they released their first album, 2 Cool 4 Skool.

BTS has put out twenty-nine singles and eight promotional singles in addition to seven studio albums (five in Korean and two in Japanese). Besides putting out albums, they have also created music videos, appeared on television, and gone on tour.

One Grammy, three Billboard Music Awards, thirteen Melon Music Awards, seventeen Mnet Asian Music Awards, nineteen Seoul Music Awards, and one American Music Award are some of the accolades that have been bestowed upon the group.

2. Blackpink

With 2016’s “Square One” and “Whistle,” K-pop girl group BLACKPINK debuted worldwide. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa are the four members that make up the group.

BLACKPINK fuses hip-hop, R&B, and electronic dance music in their sound. Hits like “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” “Kill This Love,” and “As If It’s Your Last” are just a few of the songs from the band that has been released to the public. BLACKPINK has collaborated with other singers, including Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.

The band has gained fame for its dynamic performances and sharp wardrobe choices. One of the most prominent K-pop acts, BLACKPINK has a massive fanbase worldwide.

3. EXO

Seoul-based South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO. SM Entertainment established the group in 2011; they debuted in 2012. Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun are members. Five studio albums and four live albums are available. Four EPs, three compilation albums, and one single album.

The first album XOXO sold over a million copies. “Growl” peaked at #3 on the Gaon Digital Chart. Album won the 27th Golden Disk Award’s Disk Daesang.

Exodus debuted at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart in 2015. “Call Me Baby” topped the Gaon Digital Chart at number four. The album won the 28th Golden Disk’s Disk Daesang.


Twice has nine members. JYP Entertainment established the group in 2015 via Sixteen. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Tzuyu. Twice’s name reflects their music style and idea. Apricot is the group’s color.

The band released The Story Began on Oct. 20, 2015. “Like Ooh-Ahh” is the first Korean girl group song to top the Billboard World Digital Songs list. The group received the Melon Music Award and the Golden Disk Award for the best new act.

Twice released Page Two in 2016, which included “Cheer Up.” The song debuted at number two on Billboard World Digital Songs, and the album sold over 200,000 copies.

5. Girls Generation

A female group from South Korea, Girls’ Generation, was created in 2007 by SM Entertainment. The group has eight members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun.

One of the most successful female groups of all time, Girls’ Generation, has been honored with several prizes and nominations. In South Korea, they are regarded as “The Nation’s Girl Group.”

Girls’ Generation, the group’s first studio album, was released in 2007 and quickly rose to the Korean album charts. Over a million copies were sold, making the record a commercial success.

Oh! is the group’s sophomore offering. , which was published in 2010, debuted at number one on the Korean charts and number two on the US Billboard World Albums list. Over 2 million copies were sold, making the record a commercial success.

6. Seventeen

Members adopted the name “Seventeen.” The group chose its name since 17 is a lucky number in Korea.

MONSTA X debuted in 2015 in South Korea. Shownu, Wonho, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M. They’re noted for their hip hop/EDM combination and tremendous stage presence.

Trespass was MONSTA X’s first EP. The album topped the Korean charts, and the trio earned fans locally and overseas. Since then, they’ve produced four popular EPs: The Clan Pt. 1 Lost, The Clan Pt. 2 Guilty, Beautiful, and Shine Forever.

G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri make up BIGBANG. YG Entertainment founded the group in 2006, and they’re currently one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world.

SM Entertainment established Red Velvet in 2014. The group’s name combines “red” for their aggressive appearance and “velvet” for their gentle, mature music. Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri comprise the group.
